Eliud Kipchoge

Eliud’s running started on a farm, where he used to cycle from home to Kapsabet, carrying gallons of milk to sell at the local market. His story is not just one of triumph on the track but a testament to determination and hard work.

Coached by Patrick Sang, he burst onto the scene as a teenager with a stunning gold medal at the 2003 World Championships. His track career included Olympic medals in 2004 and 2008. In 2013, Eliud started his marathon journey, and since then, he’s been unstoppable.

Known as “The Philosopher” for his intelligence, Eliud has won marathons in Hamburg, Rotterdam, Chicago, London, and Berlin. In 2017, he made history with the Breaking2 project, running the fastest marathon ever in 2:00:25. He continued his dominance, breaking the official world record in Berlin in 2018 with an astonishing time of 2:01:39.

Eliud’s marathon streak continued with victories in London and Tokyo, setting course records. His most remarkable achievement came in Vienna in 2019 when he became the first person to run a marathon in under two hours, recording 1:59:40.

Even after a rare defeat in the 2020 London Marathon, Eliud bounced back, winning the 2021 NN Mission Marathon. At the Tokyo Olympics, he secured back-to-back titles, and in 2022, he set a course record in the Tokyo Marathon and broke his own world record in Berlin with a time of 2:01:09.

In 2023, Eliud took on the B.A.A. Boston Marathon for the first time, finishing 6th in a challenging race. Later that year, he returned to Berlin, running an impressive 2:02:45 to claim victory.
